Description:

Ah Nee Mah - Spirit of The Southwest (Native American-inspired Groove Music)(2000)(New Age)

Ah Nee Mah is a side project of prolific producers David and Diane Arkenstone, who explore the sounds of the Native Southwest within the context of mellow ambient atmospheres. Their first few albums under the moniker proved to be pleasant, earthy affairs, conjuring up visions of canyons and dusty plateaus; ANCIENT VISIONS continues down that same road. The Arkenstones' mutual flair for semi-dramatic, colorful melodies is evident on each of the album's nine tracks, often featuring Native flute in the forefront while light rhythm, guitar, symphonic synths and natural sound effects (wind, animal sounds) dance in the backdrop. Each of the cuts meld together to form a cohesive whole, enveloping the listener in an hour's worth of ethereal, relaxed music flecked with the haunting sounds of America's indigenous peoples.

From Diane's Site ... by Molly Alexander Darden

Diane Arkenstone’s name has been associated with David Arkenstone for much of the past 10 years, although she has recorded four solo albums. Having played with pop bands and show bands, as well as dance, country-rock and punk bands, and having studied opera in college, she now feels comfortable with the pulsating, soothing, healing sounds for which she’s known today. She sings in a variety of languages—French, Italian, Spanish, Indian, native Hawaiian and Native American. Her most recent solo recording, Jewel in the Sun, was preceded by Aquaria: A Liquid Blue Transescape, The Healing Spirit, and Healing Body, Mind and Spirit. She grew up on a ranch in central California, and now lives near Burbank, where Neo Pacifica Recordings is located.

Can your music and style be distinguished from David’s?

Arkenstone: David and I are no longer married. We still work on a lot of wonderful music projects together for Neo Pacifica, in fact more than ever, since we just launched the new world music branch on Neo called, “Adventure Cargo.” I own Neo, so I will be on the label for quite a while. As for my music, I am adding more vocals all the time, which I think makes it more personable.

This collection of pieces from three of Neo Pacifica's most popular recordings paints a wonderful, evocative portrait of the enchanting Southwest. These beautiful, haunting melodies are exquisitely performed on Native drums and flutes, accompanied by guitar and keyboard textures, creating a captivating musical tribute to this powerful, mysterious, and beautiful land.

Lovely tribal drums and flute music..rate it highly right along with her other works like canyon dreams, spirit dance etc..expressive and gloriously executed.

Great mix of nature sounds and grooves, July 31, 2001
Reviewer: Guardian of the Zen Sea "Indigo" (Looking after the sun and surf)
This is the second CD by Ah Nee Mah, both released recently. Both of the CDs are excellent! This one focuses on Native American-inspired music with an edge. There are natural sounds incorporated into the music, which is a combination of acoustic and electronic instrumantation. Ah Nee Mah brings a real groove and an edge to their music, creating a dance-trance environment. The music is really distinctive, and crosses many different borders, appealing to a wide variety of listeners. I guess that the best description is to liken it to "Sacred Spirits 1" , or Enigma. I've played several tunes from this CD, and their previous release, "Ancient Voices", on a radio program in Alaska, and have received calls from all over the state asking who produced the music and how to get a hold of it. Once you hear the sounds, you will want to get a hold of it as well. Then, after you buy this one, add the first release to your collection, too.

Great Accompaniment to Massage Therapy, June 27, 2004
Reviewer: Massage Therapist (Boone, NC United States)
I'm a massage therapist, and this is one of my favorite CD's to use in the office. Another reviewer called this "dance-trance" music. That's because it's both rhythmic and relaxing. Nature sounds, flutes, drums, guitar, keyboard, strings & vocal chants combine to create a musical portrait of the Grand Canyon. This is faster-paced than most massage music, but a perfect accompaniment nonetheless.

One of the Best of Its Kind, December 11, 2002
Reviewer: A music fan
I indulge heavily in this type of music for various reasons.
One among those reasons being that I seek music to accompany my weaving of rugs using the traditional Navajo method.
Good music helps me to "go places" and assists in my creativity.
So I have a large collection of this type of music.
This cd is in the top 5.
Every song on this CD builds beautiful epic journeys in my heart and soul, that include soaring through canyons, flying with wind, dancing on waters, resting on red sands, facing the sun, and sharing with the Old Ones who's spirits sing in our canyons.
Thanks Ah Nee Mah !

Better than I expected and I expected it to be fabulous ..., December 15, 2001
Reviewer: A music fan
I just recieved this in the mail this morning and I am more than pleased. The music has the distinctive Arkenstone sound, but goes beyond any of his previous efforts in many ways (imo). As stated by previous reviewers, the natural sounds actually sound real, the vocals are excellent, the music is profound.
The Grand Canyon/N. Arizona Plateau are my favorite places on earth, and this music is definitely evocative of those places. The sound clips do not do this CD justice. Buy it. I can't imagine anyone who would be dissapointed with it.
