Installation

When you install and uninstall individual applications using the Adobe Production Studio installer, the Adobe Help Center and Adobe Bridge may become unavailable in Adobe Production Studio applications, as well as in any Adobe Creative Suite applications you have installed. If this happens, uninstall all applications in the Adobe Production Studio and then reinstall the desired applications.
Installation of the Adobe Production Studio may fail if Sonic Drive Letter Access (DLA) is installed on the system. Uninstall Sonic DLA before installing the Adobe Production Studio.
If you choose to install the Adobe Production Studio in a custom location, some resources will be installed in the default location regardless. Further, if you install a non-English version of Adobe Illustrator in a custom location, the Adobe Updater utility will not launch from within Adobe Illustrator.
The Adobe Help Center may be slow to launch the first time after you install the Adobe Production Studio.
(Standard Edition only) When installing the Adobe Production Studio Standard Edition, you may receive a warning that you will have low disk space after installation. In some cases, that warning is not accurate. To double-check, determine how much space is available on your hard drive. You will need 10GB of available space to install the Adobe Production Studio Standard Edition.
(Premium Edition only) If you install Adobe Audition as part of the Adobe Production Studio, you must restart your computer when installation is complete in order for CD burning in Adobe Audition to function.
Adobe Dynamic Link

Adobe Premiere Pro may appear to hang if you create a new dynamic link or use the Edit Original command on an existing dynamic link if QuickTime is not installed on the system. Either install QuickTime, or launch After Effects and open the After Effects project that contains the composition you want to work with. You'll receive a QuickTime warning dialog in After Effects. Permanently dismiss the warning dialog (make sure the Once Per Session option is disabled). You can now close the project in After Effects and successfully use the Edit Original command in Adobe Premiere Pro.
If you install an earlier version of After Effects after installing After Effects 7.0, when you use the Edit Original command on a dynamically linked composition, the earlier version of After Effects will launch even if the composition was created in After Effects 7.0. To resolve this issue, uninstall and then reinstall After Effects 7.0.
If you create a dynamic link to a new After Effects composition when you already have a project open in After Effects, a new composition is created in the After Effects project and then the project is saved automatically. Because the project is automatically saved, the File > Save command will be disabled until you make additional changes to the After Effects project.
The Increment and Save command in After Effects creates another copy of your project with an incremented file name. If you use the command on a project that contains a composition that is dynamically linked to an Adobe Premiere Pro or Encore DVD project, the dynamic link will continue to point to the original project, not the most-recently saved one. To restore the link to the most-recently saved project, do either of the following:
In Adobe Premiere Pro, right-click the linked composition in the Project panel and choose Make Offline. In the Make Offline dialog box, make sure the option Media Files Remain on Disk is selected, and then click OK. Right-click the offline composition in the Project panel and choose Link Media. In the Attach Which Media dialog box, select the most-recently saved version of the project, and then click Select.
In Encore DVD, select the linked composition in the Project panel and choose File > Locate Asset. In the Locate Composition dialog box, select the most-recently saved version of the project and then select a composition. Click OK to update the dynamic link.
You will receive an error in Adobe Premiere Pro if you try to create a dynamic link to an After Effects project that does not contain any compositions. Open the project in After Effects, create a composition and then create a dynamic link to the composition.
If you create dynamic links to multiple After Effects compositions from Adobe Premiere Pro, you may notice a delay in Adobe Premiere Pro after making changes to one of the compositions in After Effects.
If you want to create a dynamic link to an After Effects composition that was created in an earlier version of After Effects, first open the project in After Effects 7.0. The project will be converted to a version 7.0 project and will open as untitled. Save the project. You can then create a dynamic link to the version 7.0 composition.
If you rename a linked After Effects composition in the After Effects Project panel, the name will not be updated in Adobe Premiere Pro or Encore DVD.
When creating a link to a new After Effects composition from an HD project in Adobe Premiere Pro, be sure to change the bit depth in After Effects to 16 bpc. To change the bit depth, in After Effects choose File > Project Settings and select 16 bits per channel in the Depth drop-down menu.
Linked HDV/HD After Effects compositions do not scale to fit when added to a menu in Encore DVD. To get around this problem, create a DV composition in After Effects and nest the HDV/HD composition in the DV composition. Scale the HDV/HD composition appropriately, and then create a dynamic link to the DV composition.
(Premium Edition only) When importing an After Effects composition into Encore DVD, the Import Composition dialog box may not let you select the After Effects application folder if the folder has a custom icon. To get around this problem, move your project from the application folder to a folder that has a standard Windows folder icon, or change the After Effects application folder icon to a standard one.
(Premium Edition only) You cannot create a dynamic link to an After Effects composition from Encore DVD if the After Effects project that contains the composition resides on a server.
(Premium Edition only) If you transcode a linked After Effects composition in Encore DVD, you cannot use the Replace Asset command on the transcoded composition. To replace the asset, right-click it and choose Revert to Original, and then replace the asset.
(Premium Edition only) You will receive an error if you try to create a dynamic link in Encore DVD by dragging an After Effects project from Windows Explorer to the Encore DVD Project panel. To create a dynamic link to an existing After Effects project, in Encore DVD choose File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition.
Capturing After Effects clips in Adobe Premiere Pro

HDV and 24p clips captured from After Effects using the Capture in Adobe Premiere Pro command may display different durations in After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro; however no data is lost when using the clips in After Effects.
If you install an earlier version of Adobe Premiere Pro after installing Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, when you use the Capture in Adobe Premiere Pro command, the earlier version of Adobe Premiere Pro will launch and the capture will fail. Capture will still fail if you uninstall the earlier version of Adobe Premiere Pro. To resolve the issue, uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0.
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO TROUBLESHOOTING

Performance

Adobe Premiere Pro can now take advantage of up to 3 GB RAM. See the Microsoft web site for information on configuring your system to use extended memory: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx. To avoid potential incompatibility, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video and audio cards.
Some removable storage devices cannot be used as scratch disk locations. When pointing a scratch disk to a removable storage device, you may receive an error that the location is not valid. If you do, choose another location.
If you resize the Monitor panel during playback and you have GPU-accelerated playback enabled, the display mode will revert to Compatible (non-GPU-accelerated). To restore GPU acceleration, choose Project > Project Settings > General and click Playback Settings. In the Desktop Display Mode group, select Accelerated GPU Effects.
Device Control

For serial device control, Adobe recommends using Pipeline Digital cables. More information can be found at the Pipeline Digital web site (http://www.pipelinedigital.com). Generic cables are unlikely to work and cannot be supported by Adobe technical support.
Device control will not work properly if you connect more than one device to the same FireWire port. It is recommended that you attach only one device to a FireWire port.
Working with footage

Premiere Pro may become unresponsive if you import a .WMV file that has a long duration (on the order of 1.5 hours).
When working with clips that have a different field dominance than your project, you may experience field dominance issues like flickering. For example, DV footage rendered in an HD project will flicker.
MP3 audio is not supported within an AVI file. If you import an AVI file that has MP3 audio, such as a Divx-encoded AVI, audio is not imported.
When working with Adobe Photoshop files, Adobe Premiere Pro uses the c: drive as a scratch disk. Problems may occur if this drive is full. For best results, make sure that you have at least 1GB free space on the c: drive when working with Photoshop files in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Working with HD projects and footage

Depending on your system configuration, Windows Media Player may not be able to play MPEG HDV clips captured in Adobe Premiere Pro. Windows Media Player uses the most-recent MPEG codec installed on your system. Some MPEG codecs, like those that come with DVD player applications, cannot support HDV MPEG frame sizes. If Windows Media Player cannot play MPEG HDV files, try installing another MPEG codec or uninstall and then reinstall Windows Media Player.
Real-time playback of HD footage in the Multi-Camera Monitor is not supported.
When you create a new trimmed project using the Project Manager (Project > Project Manager), HDV clips are not trimmed. The entire HDV clip is included in the new project.
You may notice increased latency when playing back audio clips via on-board AJA audio outputs. If you encounter this, use a low-latency ASIO-compliant audio device instead of the AJA audio outputs.CineForm HDV clips drop frames playing in Source window.
For best performance when opening HDV projects created in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1, you must render the content in the Timeline before playback. This render step is required because version 2.0 now edits HDV natively.
Editing a sequence

While recording edits in the Multi-Camera Monitor during playback, if you close the panel by clicking the Close button in the upper right corner of the floating panel, any edits made during the current recording will not be saved to the timeline. You should stop playback before closing the Multi-Camera Monitor.
When Full Screen Video is enabled on a system that has an NVIDIA card, performance in the Multi-Camera Monitor may be slower than expected and output of an HD project to multiple external monitors may fail (specifically, enabling Monitor 2 in the Playback Settings dialog box causes both monitors to go blank when the sequence is played). To avoid these issues, disable Full Screen Video in the NVIDIA display properties.
Working with effects and filters

When saving a custom effect preset, first make sure the Effects panel is open in your workspace (Window > Effects). If the Effects panel is not open, the preset will not be saved.
Creating Titles

Adobe Premiere Pro installs new Titler styles that are not displayed in the styles library. You can explore these styles by choosing Append Style Library or Replace Style Library from the fly-out menu in the Titler Styles panel. In the Open Style Library dialog box, navigate to the \Preset\Styles folder in the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 application folder (the default location is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\Presets\Styles).
Video output

If the External Device pop-up menu in the Playback Settings dialog box (Project > Project Settings > General) is set to None, no video is recorded when you export to tape.
If you click outside the Adobe Premiere Pro application window while exporting to tape, the export will stop.
Clip Notes

Clip Notes presets have been updated to improve the aspect ratio of the video output. For best performance, it is recommended that you install the new presets. To install the presets, insert the Adobe Production Studio application DVD and navigate to the ClipNotes folder contained on it. Copy the entire ClipNotes folder to the Adobe Premiere Pro application folder on your hard drive at ...\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\MediaIO\Presets. Click Yes when asked if you want to replace the existing folder.
If you export a sequence that has a duration of more than 30 minutes to a Clip Notes PDF using the QuickTime format, the export may fail or the resulting PDF may have audio and video that is out of sync. To export a long sequence, select the Windows Media format instead.
If you encounter problems playing back QuickTime video in a Clip Notes PDF, make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader installed. You can download the latest version of Adobe Reader for free at www.adobe.com/reader.
Creating DVDs

DVD Markers are not exported when you burn a DVD without a menu, for example when using the command File > Export > Export to DVD. If you want chapter points on an auto-play DVD, set Sequence Markers on your timeline instead.
If you burn an NTSC DV project to DVD using the MPEG audio format, audio is not exported (MPEG audio is not supported by the NTSC DVD specification). By default, the DVD export presets available in Adobe Premiere Pro for NTSC DV use the PCM audio format. It is recommended that you use the default presets when exporting an NTSC DV project to DVD.
You will receive an error when exporting to DVD using a frame rate of 23.976 unless you set the N frames value to 12. To export to DVD using 23.976 fps, click the Settings button in the Burn DVD dialog box. Choose any of the available export presets. On the Video tab, select 23.976 from the Frame Rate pop-up menu. In the N Frames pop-up menu, select 12 (you may need to scroll down in the Video tab to view the N Frames field).
Keyboard shortcut documentation errata

The following keyboard shortcuts are documented incorrectly in the Adobe Premiere Pro help system:
To navigate to the beginning or end of a clip in the Timeline panel, use the Page Up or Page Down key. To navigate to the beginning or end of a sequence in the Timeline panel, use the Home or End key.
To display the Trim Monitor panel, use the shortcut Ctrl+T.
Keyboard shortcuts for closing source clips in the Source Monitor are not available in Premiere Pro 2.0.
ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS TROUBLESHOOTING

Not all functionality described in the Bridge JavaScript Reference is supported by After Effects.
If you are using the ExtendScript Toolkit, you can find the latest version of the toolkit on the support downloads page on Adobe.com.
It is not recommended to stretch After Effects windows across more than one monitor of a multi-monitor configuration. Instead, undock a panel and place it on your second or third monitor and dock other panels with that panel.
Camera Raw in After Effects only supports the following color spaces: sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB, and ColorMatch RGB. If your working space is a different color space or set to none, sRGB will be used for Camera Raw files.
After Effects does not export AAF files. The After Effects reference manual erroneously mentions this capability.
When importing a 32-bpc RGBA image with channels that have been premultiplied by the alpha channel values, After Effects may incorrectly interpret the channels as straight (i.e., not premultiplied). To work around this problem, choose Premultiplied in the Alpha area of the Interpret Footage dialog box.
OpenGL Always On mode will become disabled if a composition is created from footage that exceeds your graphics card's maximum texture height or width.
To expand or contract the nearest panel only, Option+drag (Mac OS) or Alt+drag (Windows) the window splitter in a column or row.
Help files are installed based on the language you select at install time. If, at a later time, you run After Effects in a different language, Adobe Help Center will launch without After Effects content. To view After Effects content in the originally installed language, choose Adobe After Effects from the content drop-down list.
Illustrator layers that were imported as Layer Size in After Effects 6.0 or 6.5 may change their dimensions when opening the project in After Effects 7.0. The new dimensions accurately enclose the layer contents. This can change layer positioning.
When installing After Effects on a drive other than C:, some Adobe common files will be installed on C:. You will need enough space on C: for the Adobe common files to successfully install After Effects.
After Effects will crash when attempting to import an MPEG file if CinePlayer from Sonic Solutions is installed.
Import and playback of long HDV MPEG-2 footage may be very slow. To work around this, import the footage into Premiere Pro and transcode the section you need.
When rendering to MPEG-2 files, an error may occur if the same basename (name without extension) is used by two output modules on the same render queue item.
ADOBE AUDITION TROUBLESHOOTING (PREMIUM EDITION ONLY)

ASIO driver vs. Audition Windows Sound

For the highest level of compatibility, Adobe Audition 2.0 automatically assigns your default Windows sound card as its default inputs and outputs. If your audio hardware supports the ASIO driver model, we recommend that you choose it in the Audio Hardware setup dialog instead of the Audition Windows Sound, as this will give improved performance in most cases.
There is a known issue with the ASIO driver for the Creative Audigy line of sound cards. For these cards, leave the hardware setup set to Audition Windows Sound.
Video export

MPEG video is only supported when Adobe Audition 2.0 is part of Adobe Production Studio.
CD burning

Some CD-RW drives cannot handle writing ISRC and UPC/EAN values. If your attempt to write fails, try to uncheck the Write CD-Text box in the Write CD dialog and uncheck the ISRC box in the Track Properties dialog for every track in the CD Project View.
For some CD-RW drives, an incorrect write speed is displayed in the CD Device Properties dialog and you will be unable to change the setting. In these cases, the CD will be burned at the maximum possible speed for the drive.
The maximum number of Index Cues per track supported by Adobe Audition is 98.
Extract Audio from CD (CD ripping)

The default mode for CD audio extraction is SPTI. It is recommended that you do not use ASPI due to known problems with different versions of ASPI drivers. For more details, visit the Adobe Audition Support site: www.adobe.com/support/products/audition.html.
Due to driver incompatibilities that can cause severe operating system crashes, CD ripping from external USB/FireWire CD drives and DVD/CD drives is disabled from within Adobe Audition. You can manually enable this functionality by double-clicking the file EnableIOCTLPNP.reg. This file is located in the folder where you installed Adobe Audition 2.0 (the default location is \Program Files\Adobe\Audition 2.0). To revert to the default state where this functionality is disabled, double-click the file DisableIOCTLPNP.reg which is located in the same directory. Warning: Attempting to rip from some devices of this type may cause your entire Windows operating system to crash (aka "blue screen").
Only silence will be extracted when the Buffer Size setting in the Extract Audio from CD dialog is greater than 128 KB when using SPTI mode for CD audio extraction. Use 128 KB or lower to work around this problem.
ReWire

To launch an application in ReWire slave mode, you first need to launch Adobe Audition, enable ReWire, and then select the ReWire slave application. Then click on the Launch button to start the Rewire slave application. Some ReWire slave applications do not support being launched via ReWire and nothing will happen when you click the Launch button. For these applications, start the slave application through normal means after enabling ReWire in Adobe Audition, such as the Windows Start > Programs menu. Once the ReWire application is then launched, it will automatically be in Slave mode.
Adobe Audition does not support multiple tempos within a single session. If your ReWire slave application uses a session that contains multiple tempos, Adobe Audition will not respond to the tempo changes.
Changes made to tempo and time signature within a ReWire slave application will not be reflected in Adobe Audition. However, changes made to the session tempo or time signature in Adobe Audition will be reflected in the ReWire slave application.
Snap to frames behavior

In Multitrack View, it is possible to set your snapping behavior to frames by right-clicking on the timeline, and selecting Snap to Frames (Always). This allows the cursor to snap to a frame boundary, as long as the time format is measured in frames (such as Compact Disc and SMPTE). This command is especially handy for working on audio for CD. It is important to note that the frames in use here are audio frames, not video frames.
Saving when file is open in Adobe Premiere Pro

When attempting to save a change to an audio file in Adobe Audition that is also loaded in Adobe Premiere Pro, you may see an error that states: "File is probably in use by another application. Please close the other application and try saving again." In this case, the file is still being read by Adobe Premiere Pro in order to conform the audio. You will need to wait until the audio from the file is conformed in Adobe Premiere Pro before saving the changes to the file. A progress bar in the lower right corner of the Adobe Premiere Pro application window displays that status of the audio conform.
AIF Format

There is a known issue saving audio data into the AIF format if the audio has any samples that exceed 0 dBFS which is referred to as “clipping.” To see if your audio is clipping, select the entire clip in the Edit View and choose Analyze > Statistics. If the value in the field Possibly Clipped Samples is not zero, you may need to save in a different format or eliminate clipping prior to saving in the AIF format.
VSTi and DXi

VST and DirectX audio effects plug-ins are supported in Adobe Audition 2.0. VSTi and DXi plug-ins, also known as virtual instrument plug-ins, are not supported.

Compatibility with previous versions of Adobe Encore DVD

You can open projects created in previous versions of Adobe Encore DVD in Adobe Encore DVD 2.0. If you attempt to open a project created in Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 in an earlier version of Adobe Encore DVD, you may encounter an error and the project may not open.
Video display

On some systems, video may not display within Adobe Encore DVD. If this happens, update the system's display drivers to the latest version.
Working with assets

The Replace Asset command cannot be used on an asset after it has been transcoded. To replace the asset, right-click it and choose Revert to Original, and then replace the asset.
The Transcode Now command is not enabled for selected audio files until they have been conformed by Adobe Encore DVD.
Importing a large number of files using the File > Import As command may fail. If this happens, drag and drop the desired files from Windows Explorer to the Project panel.
QuickTime assets may not play back smoothly in the Monitor panel. Transcoding the QuickTime file should allow it to play back smoothly.
If you set the pixel aspect ratio of a widescreen TIF image to 1.2 in the Interpret Footage dialog box, the image does not display correctly in slideshows and timelines.
Video may not play back correctly in the Monitor panel or during Preview on some systems. If this occurs, choose Preferences > Audio/Video Out and deselect Automatic. If that does not solve the issue, reselect Automatic in the Audio/Video Out preferences, and then update your display drivers.
Audio playback

ASIO is supported in Adobe Encore DVD only if no Direct Sound cards are also installed on the system.
In the ASIO Direct Sound Full Duplex Setup dialog box (choose Edit > Preferences > Audio/Video Out and click Audio Output Device), Adobe Encore DVD obeys only the Direct Sound Output Port settings. The Direct Sound Input Port settings are not functional.
If you select an ASIO device for audio output (Edit > Preferences > Audio/Video Out), the selection is not saved in the Adobe Encore DVD preference file if a DirectSound driver and device is also installed on your system.
The Digidesign ASIO driver does not appear as an output option in the Audio Output Device dialog box (Edit > Preferences > Audio/Video Out) unless it is the only audio driver on the system.
Creating menus

Some buttons that ship with Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 do not display video thumbnails correctly when rotated. To fix this, add layer masks to the thumbnail layers in Adobe Photoshop.
When you preview a menu that has text with a subpicture, the subpicture is not highlighted.
Motion menus

Motion menus with 23.976 fps progressive video backgrounds get composited as 29.97 interlaced MPEG-2 files.
If the background video/audio asset in a motion menu is offline, a video frame from the asset is still displayed in the Menu panel.
If an animated button is linked to a timeline that contains multiple clips, and the first clip is less than the duration of the motion menu, the first clip will loop in the button thumbnail.
When you preview a motion menu that has a loop point in Adobe Encore DVD, the default button does not highlight until about 1 second after the loop point is reached instead of immediately when the loop point is reached. When the DVD is built, the default button highlights at the specified loop point.
Working with timelines

Dragging multiple assets to a timeline may cause audio clips to be offset from their associated video clips. To avoid this, drag assets to the timeline one at a time.
When you drag an MPEG file that contains audio to a timeline that already contains an AVI file with audio, or vice versa, audio from the second file is not added to the timeline, even if the bit rates of the audio content are the same.
Timelines that contain subtitles cannot be duplicated.
When you click on a video clip in the Timeline panel, any audio associated with the video also will be selected. To select only the video or only the audio track, Ctrl+click the desired clip.
Chapter playlists

Preview in Adobe Encore DVD momentarily pauses when previewing a chapter playlist that contains a chapter point that has an end action link. The pause will not occur on the burned DVD.
Subtitles

Some system fonts do not display stroke correctly when used as subtitles.
Importing text subtitles with the Faux Bold or Faux Italics options enabled significantly increases the time it takes to import the file.
When you open an existing project that contains subtitle tracks, the tracks are deselected and no active track is indicated.
When you view subtitles over widescreen video in 4:3 Letterbox or in 4x3 Pan & Scan mode on a set-top DVD player, the subtitles appear thinner horizontally. This can be mitigated by increasing the horizontal scale of the subtitle text, or by widening the subtitles's bounding box in the Monitor panel.
To duplicate an entire track of subtitle clips, select the track header and choose Edit > Duplicate.
Slideshows

Changing the aspect ratio of a still image in the Interpret Footage dialog box doesn't update the thumbnail in the Slideshow panel. To update the thumbnail, close and then reopen the slideshow.
If a DVD has multiple audio or subtitle tracks, playing a slideshow will reset the DVD audio and subtitle tracks to 1. Avoid using slideshows if you want your DVD to retain the last-selected audio or subtitle tracks.
Previewing

Playback in the Preview window fails if you resize the window. To restart preview, close and then reopen the Preview window.
Creating DVDs

If you try to write to a DVD+RW disc in a DVD burner that supports only DVD-RW, or a DVD-RW disc in a burner that supports only DVD+RW, you will receive an error message stating that the media is not blank. The error message should state that the media is invalid.
When choosing a destination for a DVD folder in the Build DVD panel, if you manually enter a path that does not already exist, the Build button will not be enabled. Either enter a path to a location that already exists, or click the Browse button to select a location.
DVD+/-RW discs do not support copy protection. Copy protection settings defined in Project Settings will be ignored when you burn to a recordable DVD.
Interoperability with Adobe After Effects

The presets for Windows Media export in Adobe After Effects 7.0 may produce .WMV files that will not import into Adobe Encore DVD. To correct this, in Adobe After Effects 7.0, choose the Windows Media Output Module and set the Frame Rate to Same as Source and the Pixel Aspect Ratio to Same as Project. If your Adobe After Effects projects use legal video parameters, the resulting .WMV file should import into Adobe Encore DVD.
Japanese version

Scripts containing the character @ (at symbol) cannot be imported into the Japanese version of Adobe Encore DVD 2.0.
You cannot use the Delete key to delete objects in a menu after entering double-byte text in the menu.
Menu template files with Japanese filenames are displayed with English names in the Project, Properties and Menu panels.
